• Shaolin Monastery Branches Out.

This just in from an Austrailan friend:

Shaolin Monastery is going to set up its first centre outside China on the south coast of NSW -- approval for it has just come through from the state government. This will be a "$750 million [Australian dollars] training academy, temple, luxury resort and residential complex" covering 1248 hectares, and "will include three pagoda temples, places for 500 kung-fu students, a 500-room four-star hotel, 27-hole golf course, 1500-seat indoor auditorium, 1000-seat outdoor amphitheatre, 20-hectare herbal garden, acupuncture and herbal medicine centre and a village of up to 500 homes". They're planning to invite Jackie Chan and Jet Li to visit and are hoping that it "could be a centre for making kung-fu movies."

American wuxia author's site goes live

News | by Mark Pollard | 2006.10.22

I've been exchanging e-mails with Albert A. Dalia for some time concerning his efforts to get published. He's spent four decades studying Chinese civilization and in recent years harnessed that interest into writing wuxia fiction. Dalia's challenge has been getting U.S. publishers to recognize that there is, or could be, a market for novels about swordsmen and women and the jiang hu. I've read an excerpt from one of his stories and believe he deserves a chance.

Well, he's finally got one. In 2007, Pleasure Boat Studio is going to publish his novel DREAM OF THE DRAGON POOL - A DAOIST QUEST.

Dalia has set up the site The Dragon Gate Inn to introduce himself and the novel and discuss the Chinese heroic fiction genre.
